Michael Brown
Born in Chicago, began his musical studies at age 6 with piano lessons from his mother. Ending them two weeks later, he also made an abortive attempt at cello before eventually moving to Knoxville, TN at age 10 and settling on euphonium. Michael later learned trombone from a friend in high school marching band and attended the University of Michigan as a double music performance major, studying with Fritz Kaenzig and David Jackson. While at Michigan, Michael won first prize in the 2004 International Trombone Festival Yaxley Bass Trombone Solo Competition. Michael went on to complete a Master's Degree in bass trombone at the Rice University Shepherd School of Music, where he studied with David Waters and became the only student in the school's history to win the concerto competition on euphonium. Following graduate school, Michael spent three years as the bass trombonist for the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra in New Orleans. Michael has also performed with the Houston, Detroit, San Antonio, Knoxville, Baton Rouge, and Haddonfield Symphonies. Michael is currently a member of the US Navy Band. In his free time, Michael enjoys playing chamber music with friends, klezmer music with his family, cooking, eating, and watching horror movies.
David Miller
Originally from Chicago, David J. Miller studied with Thomas Ashworth while earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Trombone Performance at the University of Minnesota, and with Nitzan Haroz while he completed his Master’s Degree in Trombone Performance at Temple University. He was a member of the Charleston Symphony (SC), and solo trombonist with the Orquesta Sinaloa de las Artes (Sinaloa, Mexico), of which he was a founding member. He was the principal trombonist of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Minería (Mexico City, Mexico). He has performed solo recitals in Poland, given master classes in Mexico City, and was the trombone instructor at the Instituto Superior de Música del Estado de Veracruz in Mexico, as well as Claflin University in Orangeburg, SC. He has performed with the Atlanta, Baltimore and Cincinnati Symphony Orchestras, the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra, the Kirov Ballet, the Pacific Music Festival Orchestra (Sapporo, Japan), as well as with the Annapolis and Delaware Symphonies. He has performed with such international artists as Jose Carreras, Arturo Sandoval, and Paquito D’Rivera. He is currently Principal Trombonist of the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra. His transcriptions for concert band have been recorded and performed on numerous tours of the US Navy Concert Band. He also arranges for The Barclay Brass, one of the premiere brass ensembles of the National Capitol Region. As an engraver and copyist, he worked for Kalmus Music, and now publishes his own arrangements at Sterling Music Editions. In 2010, the Philadelphia Orchestra performed the premiere of his critical edition of Mikhail Glinka’s Ruslan and Ludmila Overture under the direction of Charles Dutoit.
David Sisk
Originally from Pittsburgh, PA, attended Youngstown State University where he received his Bachelor of Music in Music Education. He then attended The Manhattan School of Music in New York, NY receiving a Masters in Music Performance studying with David Finlayson of The New York Philharmonic. David is a former member of The USAF Concert Band & Ceremonial Brass, and has performed with groups including the National Symphony Orchestra, The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, The Irish Radio Orchestra, and The Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra. In 2015 David earned his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of Maryland, and is now a licensed physical therapist in the State of Maryland and the Commonwealth of Virginia.
